Mankind faces eternal simpleness, like ' Peace, peace, peace---only peace
gets you peace.' Mankind also faces eternal paradox---'Sometimes you must fight for
peace'; a rotten peace will fester into war, or worse. Worse? Yes.(It has even led to the Killing Fields genocide that "peace," 30 years ago, "blessed" Cambodia with after peaceniks stopped the yelling, put down their placards and baby-killer slogans and went home, safe in their sanctimony, far from the ghosts and screams in Battambang, Siem Reap and Kompong Thom.) Today we have Mother Sheehanites and we have

Genius, renaissance man, diplomat, scientist, journalist, writer, inventor, quintessential American,
Founding Father Ben Franklin often was not a politically correct figure, and never the Ivy-League or lawyer type that now runs our country. An
anti-slavery agitator, he embodied work ethic over entitlement, enterprise over government program. For the national
bird he preferred the turkey to the eagle. (He even suggested the rattlesnake
for the national symbol and could explain why with the persuasive, penetrating detail of a keen observer.) As
a musician he worshipped melody over percussion or syncopation. He was an
American the French adored. He advocated 'venery,' (fornication, if you will)
only for "health" or "childbirth.") In his voluminous writing he even revealed
that early settlers in New England were inclined to fast rather than feast to
commemorate their struggles and hardships. In Human Events, former CIA
Financial analyst, now Columbia University professor Mark Skousen (a descendant
of Ben Franklin) unearths Franklin's account of how a lone farmer swung
sentiment to a Thanksgiving Day. And the rest is history, progressively un-Spartan, teeming
with gratitude and calories---except when, today, it can be ingratitude and calories. (For an excellent sample of gratitude--even Spartan-like-- we reccommend Major K, straight from Iraq)
ps. Franklin also pointed out that, whether as fast or feast, it was always religious.
Whether or not George Orwell would write about
'"Big Bro' in America" today, pungent La Shawn Barber, in her bright blog,
delivers color and controversy yet again. She focuses on how a Southern girl of
mixed parentage is reviled by black students on campus after she dares to
criticize today's racial double standards and double talk.
Can, or should (nominally white) gringoman stir the
pot further, being possibly even more politically incorrect than the elegant
D.C. lady who is formerly of the black South?
Oh, well, here goes. Kudos to La Shawn
and certainly to the mulatto lass who is set upon for having a mind and daring to speak
it. 'Mulatto' is unacceptable, you say? Why? Because it isn't politically
correct? But why isn't it pc? 'Settled law?' Judicial 'precedent'? If the brave young lady--like Condoleeza Rice---has
a black parent and a white parent, why is she designated "black" instead of
"white"? Explain and cite your authorities or thought-law enforcement. Why can
she not just as well be designated "white" instead of "black"? Cite your
"experts". A certain, uh, non-white "duskiness"? Then what's wrong with
'mulatto'? Please cite your authorities.
ps. Since the title of this post may lead to misunderstanding, not to mention vilification, point of elucidation: Behind every 'Big Bro' is a white liberal.
[This post has been delayed for days due to a cable
cut by nearby wrecking crew tearing down buildings. Apologia pro
tardemus]....Producer Mary Mapes is
back. During last Fall's election campaign her controversial "research" almost
enabled CBS and anchordude Dan Rather to bring down a sitting President.
Unfortunately for Democrats, it didn't quite work. (You know, something about
"forged document," scandal, Rather's incoherence, Texas politics, major media
credibility and of course those bloggers annoying enough to deconstruct the
forgery, with evidence.)
After Mapes like co-Texan Rather was eventually
fired , is she now contrite or curled up in a CBS Hall of Shame? As Gateway
Pundit and others show---haillllllllll no. Au contraire. She's back a year
later, touring her book, "Truth and Duty," the Debacle According to
This is a Texas mama who took a lot of in-coming
rounds and will now return fire. She's miffed at CBS (an outfit I
knew intimately from another lifetime, during the fall of Saigon.) In the heat
of scandal CBS did, of course, finally throw Mary overboard. However, evidence
of using a forged document will not deter this woman. She does not repent.
Like co-Texan Rather (who eventually issued an "apology" after a powerful
corporate enema) Mapes still "believes" the Bush-got-favoritism story-- a story
recycled from two previous Bush elections in Texas.
This is understandable. It doesn't take a Socrates
to figure out that Bush might have gotten some "preferential treatment" for his
Texas Air National Guard service. Why not believe Ben Barnes, speaker of Texas
House of Representatives, who said he got Bush into the Guard (even though
Barnes' own daughter says he's lying and Barnes was a fat cat contributor
to Bush opponent John Kerry in the Presidential campaign)? If you come from an
elite and powerful family you often get things without even asking. It's called
life on Planet Earth, as lived even before the res publica in Rome. It
is also understandable that enemies in what Samuel Johnson called "the empire of
envy," would try to use Bush's alleged "getting away" with missing attendance
during his last year in the Guard. It's also understandable that such enemies
would play dumb about(1) Bush's hundreds of hours piloting a jet fighter (2)
Bush over-attending Guard sessions by 300% during his first three years (3) his
being rated in top 5% of pilots and even higher in intelligence. (Incidentally,
Bush may have been too late for Vietnam, or his influence may have kept him
out--like it did "student" Bill Clinton-- but gringoVision suspects he now
wishes he got there, even if just for elementary manhood reasons, forget the
politics. Only war is like war--fortunately. Not even a focus group, or
PlayStation, can substitute.)
The Mapes dilemna (which eventually got her and
Rather dumped by CBS): Is it okay to use a forgery to "prove" a plausible story?
Is a document's "authenticity" so all-important in such a case? So what if it
was a copy, provided by Bush's National Guard Commander BIll Burkett? So what if
the unstable (by many accounts) Burkett later said that Kerry aide Joe Lockhart
had pressed him for "damaging evidence"? Hey, did that necessarily make the
story un-true? Mary, like Rather, knows what she knows. The story had to be
true. The story was so plausible. Of course Bush got a favor for being a Bush,
did he not? So what if the "offense" was strictly 'Mickey Mouse,' (as it would be called back in the 'Nam?)
Mary Mapes was a senior CBS producer. She was not
a deliberate liar or hypocrite. Hardly a panhandle flim-flammer. She was a
believer. A case of what the surgical Charles Krauthammer in WaPo means by
Marxian-cited "false consciousness" as when rich patronize the poor, or
"knowers" patronize the ignorant? Well, let's just say she knew what she
knew. Just like Rather and his fellow Dems did. They both knew what they
knew. This was the elite journalism of Manhattan, sourced from Texas and baked
for 60 minutes. Surely this wasn't putting the 'lame' in Mainstream, was it?
Mary's book tour is pushing her out there now.
ABC senior investigative reporter Brian Ross(transcript at Newsbusters) actually asked about proof. You
know, like proof that the document--itself a copy-- was authentic. Mary said
she didn't need any proof--- except the kind of "proof" that meets her
"journalistic standards." Yes, she said that. Ross kept a straight face. He
tried again, with the proof thing, as if addressing a pupil in Remedial Ed.
Mary replied that doubters would have to prove that these documents were not
authentic. Ross still kept a straight face. Viewers do not report that his
eyeballs were rolling.
But Mary soldiered on, after disclosing what her
standard of "truth" really is. . Boldly she entered Bill O'Reilly's Lion
Den.(Transcript at Freedom Folks) O'Reilly asked if she was a liberal. Possibly
an unfair 'label' question and she waffled, understandably. But then he asked,
was she a registered Democrat. Mary, who had spent four years sleuthing and
blood-hounding the Bush story in the Texas political badlands, replied, "I
don't know...." She seemed a bit young for a "senior moment."
Emily J. Will is a document examiner certified by
the Board of Document Examiners. Besides going over the celebrated forgery, she
also has read Mary Mape's new book. She lists a number of "discrepancies" in
"Truth and Duty."
As her book tour rolls on. Mary Mapes may find
"friendlier" interviewers. She'll expose what she sees as two chief culprits
in her fall from CBS and MSM grace: the "blog swarm" and CBS cowardice. "CBS
caved to a conservative blog attack."
Mary Mapes knows what she believes. Like Rather.
Yes, they unseated themselves instead of a President, but kids will still cheer
them on the college lecture circuit of "progressive" academia. And not even
their professors, let alone the Justice Department, are likely to raise a simple
question: who forged these documents and why is he or she or they still at

NEW JERSEY. WaPo reports on Republican Doug

Corzine's sex-and-money affair with a CWA union boss does not bode well for New

Nigeria. Mister Snitch

In the event that Republican Doug Forester somehow
upsets Democrat Jon Corzine in today's election for New Jersey Governor, you can
blame it on the wives.
New Jersey these days is virtually cemented in
machine politics---mostly Democrat cement. Some may rank the corruption, on a
world scale, with Nigeria and Bangladesh.
For today's election, Lamestream Media focuses on
the "sleaze" and the mud-slinging, which reportedly is turning off the voters.
Both Corzine and Forester adultered, it is said. Brother rats in betrayal? It
will seem that way, for example, in the "progressive" UK Guardian. Try it. You
won't find a word about the Corzine affair's blatant relevance to the issue of
NJ corruption. They prefer to focus on the generic "mud-slinging" and its effect
on voters. You can sanitize even mud.
And the wives? The facts today: Forester's
wife is at his side, Corzine's ex-wife is on his back.
Corzine's ex-wife (and school sweetheart) even
dropped a bombshell days before the election, referring to his union
boss-cum-mistress: "Jon let his family down, and he'll probably let New Jersey
Corzine's ex-sweetheart wife did not go into
Jersey-stuff details, as a documented "Rap Sheet" does on the Web, which tells
us that Corzine met a "pretty face" named Karla Katz in 1999 while she
campaigned for his U.S. Senate election. Karla was hot stuff--- already

Things got cozy. This "progressive" Jersey union
boss had a million-dollar estate in Hunterden County and needed to buy out her
share from her ex. Corzine was formerly CEO at Wall Street's Goldman Sachs. Money he
knows, and Carla he was getting to know. He lent her 470, 000 dollars and in
2004, after announcing for Governor, forgave the "loan," and paid an additional
$200,000 in gift taxes for her.
It appears they were getting it on. Family man
Corzine had the Senate and Carla. Why not Governor and Carla? Carla, for her
union, not only has endorsed her Sweet Daddy for the Senate and now Governor,
but Corzine says there is "no conflict of interest" here even though the state
obviously negotiates wages and benefits for Carla's sizeable union.
So watch the wives. Forester's wife, Andrea, has
scored a hit with her video "The Doug I Know." Corzine's ex-wife has disturbed
the machine with what you might call "The Rat I Know."
Will Forester's wife win it for him, and Corzine's
ex-wife lose it for him?
Or maybe the wives will not sway this election.
Maybe New Jersey politics, as Bangladesh West, is now too deep in
